Safety is an Inside Job!

How Controlled Flight was Achieved with Self-Control

Why did the “uneducated” Wright brothers succeed in flying when other, highly educated and abundantly funded people fail? Self Control among other things.

Orville and Willbur Wright wanted to fly. But their goal was not just flight, but rather controlled flight. They understood that flying was only part of the challenge. Being in control whilst in the air was the key. Being in control, they understood began with every aspect of their approach. This meant they must have self-control.

They did not just take to the sky with a powered craft. They went to Kitty Hawk which allowed steady wind and sand. Sand allowed them to fail without suffering hard consequence. They started with kites, then gliders and progressed to larger powered craft. This took time and patience. We can see that their equipment was a reflection of themselves. For it to fly in control, it needed to be crafted under control.

Self- Control requires the grace of humility. This is an inside job. No one can ever tell you the importance of taking care of yourself and remaining safe. You have to feel the respect for yourself inside and realize that you are worth the trouble.

Yes, one of the brothers had a tragic mishap, and they both came back to their self controls.

Extrinsic controls are not the way forward, nurturing self control is.
